You have complete autonomy of your own body, or at least you should. Yes, sometimes it rebels out of reflex. Who hasn’t experienced a brain freeze or shed a tear when cutting onions? Ultimately you have the final say about what it does.
However, this autonomy does not free you of the consequences of your actions.
Go streaking in a children’s playground? Expect to be charged with public exposure. Eat badly and neglect exercise? Better have good health insurance. Can’t be bothered to brush and floss regularly? I think you get the picture.
In my opinion, autonomy is about making informed and un-coereced decisions. Educate yourself on things that matter to you. Trust the experts but always remember to verify and always get the full picture. Here are a couple of great science-y blogs to help filter out the bullshit:
